Medical errors at Beth Israel Deaconess
Rhode Island hospitals aren’t the only ones that make mistakes in the surgery room. Check out this article in the Boston Globe about three botched spine surgeries at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
The mistakes all happened within the last few months, where surgeons miscounted and operated on the wrong vertebrae. Now, the hospital is receiving a citation from federal and state health inspectors for the frequency of the errors.
Paul Levy, the CEO of Beth Israel, has made a name for himself by bring transparent about medical errors at his hospital.
He blogs regularly about his work and even candidly wrote about a wrong site surgery at the hospital only days after it happened.
But I keep searching for a blog post on these mistakes, and so far I haven’t found one. A search for “spine” on the site turns up nothing about the incidents. Have I just overlooked the posts? What’s up, Paul?
