Hug those babies as much as you can!

July 29, 2010

It turns out you can’t cuddle a baby too much, at least according to a recent study which used data collected in Providence.

Researchers took data from National Collaborative Perinatal Project, which observed how affectionate Rhode Island  mothers were with their 8 month old babies.  The study then found those babies more than 33 years later and evaluated their mental well being.

Of the 482 people in the study, the babies with the most affectionate mothers had the least amount of anxiety as adults.

Researchers say  this is one of the first  studies to analyze  the long term effect of affection on children, matching their treatment as babies with their behavior as adults.

The findings have been published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
