Health care in space!
September 1, 2010
Any doctors out there interested in exploring the final frontier?
Today the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded over 1 million dollars for biomedical research in space.
The research will use the benefits of zero gravity at the International Space Station to explore questions ranging from the effects of alcohol to how the immune system breaks down.
Rhode Island researchers were absent on the list of grantees. The closest award went to Dr. Paola Divieti from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Divieti will look at the effects of weightlessness on bone density.
