Brown University researchers create artificial ovary

Researchers from Brown University and Women and Infants have created an artificial ovary that successfully matured an egg cell into a human egg.

Their research, which may eventually expand the field of fertility treatments, especially for women with ovarian cancer, is published online in the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics.

How did they do it? In simple terms, the researchers took cells from a women of reproductive age and seeded them in a set of molded gels.  Read the article to get the technical explanation.
