Did Senator John Chafee write the health care overhaul?

You may know of it as the “Affordable Care Act” but the nation’s health care overhaul is strikingly similar to a proposal introduced in 1993 by Little Rhody’s former Republican Senator (and the late father of the Governor)  John Chafee.

This  Republican attempt at health care reform was called the Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993. How similar is it to the Democrat’s law?  Kaiser Health News counts the ways in an article and this chart.  Here are some highlights-

Granted, the Medicaid expansion is a major part of the now 1yr old law, but otherwise the similarities are impressive.
