One thing I learned today… making maps!

April 14, 2011

I’m away from Rhode Island this week for a crash course in science journalism for radio reporters. I’m trying to keep everybody updated on what I’m doing over here. One of today’s lessons- maps!

So, I was a cartographer in my past life, but I haven’t made maps in a while. The folks from KQED Quest taught us how to do some simple mapping using google maps.  I played around with some spots near the station and this is what I came up with.

Notice how I was able to embed photos and videos in the map.

This could be useful for some of our stories, especially for WRNI’s “One Square Mile” project where we do stories about a particular part of the state. Imagine the possibilities! Folks could easily visualize where our pieces took place within the “square.”
