A typo that could have wiped out RI’s compassion centers

Today Governor Chafee submitted amendments to 15 articles of his 2012 budget.  The big changes relate to what will and won’t be subject to his new sales tax proposal (parks and botanical gardens, sports club memberships, and software publishing are among the items off the list.)

But one of the other articles he changed was Article 24 sec 5, related to a proposed tax on compassion centers. The early budget made a pretty big mistake.  Here’s the correction-

Oops!  What a difference a decimal makes. A 40% surcharge would have been a big surprise for Rhode Island’s medical marijuana community.
