Another deadline for Landmark
Tuesday is supposed to be the day Judge Michael Silverstein chooses Landmark’s future owner, but he’s delayed his decision and this process so often it’s hard to trust the deadline.
Case in point- the hearing scheduled for 9:3o am is now happening at 11am!
This is how the situation stands- as of the last court appearance, the bidders either hadn’t reached an agreement with Landmark’s union or couldn’t agree on reimbursement rates with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein gave bidders until 4pm last Friday to take care of those issues and explain their progress in a letter. According to Landmark’s spokesman, all four bidders (three for Landmark, one for just the Rehab hospital) submitted letters by the deadline on Friday, but it’s unclear if they’ve resolved their issues.
One thing’s for certain- RegionalCare hasn’t reached an agreement with Landmark’s union- the United Nurses and Allied Professionals (UNAP). Members have authorized UNAP to plan a strike if Judge Silverstein chooses Regional Care as Landmark’s buyer.
What will happen tomorrow? It’s possible Judge Silverstein will reject all of the bidders if they haven’t made sufficient progress with their negotiations. Special Master Jonathan Savage would then have the right to negotiate with new bidders, making this process even longer.
What do you think is in the best interest of Landmark? Hope that one of these bidders works out? Start the process over again? Shut the hospital down?
Whatever happens, it’s my birthday tomorrow (according to this list, I share the day with Bono and Sid Vicious) so I’m hoping for at least a short court appearance if not a final decision on this ongoing saga. Maybe I should bring birthday cake to the courthouse?
