Eric Holder on marijuana dispensaries

June 2, 2011

Our awesome political reporter Ian Donnis grilled U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder about his stance on medical marijuana dispensaries today.  According to Ian, Holder was intentionally vague, but he did offer one interesting tidbit. When asked about his message to marijuana patients who want a legal source for the drug, he said-

What we have to do is try to effectuate that policy in a way that we give comfort to someone who is using it appropriately and make sure, as I said, that we are using our [anti-drug] resources in the most effective way.

Holder also said that the Justice Department is “seeking clarity” on the medical marijuana dispensary issue but didn’t offer specifics.

Meanwhile, medical marijuana patients are gathering at the state house today to put some pressure on  Governor Chafee to lift his hold on Rhode Island’s compassion centers.
