UNAP hasn’t threatened a strike
I just got off the phone with Helene Macedo, the president of the Rhode Island Hospital United Nurses and Allied Professionals. She said she found out that the hospital hired strike breakers when Huffmaster tried to recruit one of her members.
They got home and there was a message on their machine. The message said they were from an agency who was… looking to recruit possibly for a hospital in Providence that was going through contract negotiations and if they were interested, give them a call for more details. They would put them up at a hotel.
Macedo says UNAP is nowhere near calling a strike.
We still have 7 more bargaining sessions to try to hammer out an agreement… So at this point, we’re not on the verge of striking.
Macedo says she’s not sure why Rhode Island Hospital hired Huffmaster, but she says her union is still committed to negotiating a contract. That agreement expires June 30th.
