Health dept suspends surgeon’s license following drug charges

Yesterday, Rhode Island Hospital revoked Dr. Robert Villarreal‘s hospital privileges when he was charged with forging prescriptions for himself and other employees. Now the Rhode Island Department of Health has suspended his license and the license of his  nursing assistant.

The Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline referred to the DEA affidavit on Villarreal and  Gary Menissian’s  alleged drug scheme in its summary of the suspensions.

Villarreal is accused of  wrote fake prescriptions to obtain Percocet, Vicodin, Adderall, and Ativan for himself and other hospital employees.

DEA agents say Villarreal admitted to taking around 20 Adderall pills a day and performing surgery under their influence.
