RI Medical Society to Chafee: allow compassion centers
The Rhode Island Medical Society is leaning on Governor Lincoln Chafee to lift his hold on the state’s medical marijuana retail stores.
In a letter dated August 10th, RIMS President Gary Bubly asks Chafee to allow the Department of Health to move forward with licensing the marijuana dispensaries.
The legislation creating the compassion center model in Rhode Island is a national model. It requires appropriate security and oversight allowing patients to obtain their marijuana in a controlled environment. Further delay in implementing this law only serves to deny relief to patients suffering from the qualifying medical conditions.
No response yet from the governor’s office. The governor’s office says the letter came in today, but Chafee and the policy director haven’t had a chance to read it yet. The governor’s office will review the letter and offer comment later.
