RI food inspectors in the limelight
Turns out two of Rhode Island’s health inspectors had a brief run in with fame. In 2009, they were profiled in “Surprise Inspection,” a reality TV show based in Providence about their work keeping local establishments safe. Here’s the write up-
SURPRISE INSPECTION – Rats. Roaches. Rotten food. Irate owners. It’s all in a day’s work for the army of public health inspectors, who spend each day keeping the nation’s food supply safe from contamination and disease. truTV’s cameras will follow inspectors in Providence, R.I., as they shine their flashlights into the darkest corners of some of the city’s dirtiest places, including restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, gas stations, stadium concession stands, public swimming pools and health clubs. This show will be a compelling, fast-paced glimpse into the world of those who do their best to keep public places clean and safe.
The show only lasted two episodes and as far as I can tell, it’s not available online. According to the Internet Movie Database, the shows starred Cathy Feeney and Shirley Gaudreau playing themselves. I’ve contacted the RI Department of Health to see if Feeney and Gaudreau are still working there. The production company for “Surprise Inspection” also says it will look into getting the episodes for me.
