Time to sell our compassion centers on Craigslist?
There’s a rumor going around that someone tried to sell a RI compassion center license on Craigslist for $100,000. I couldn’t find the post online. (Although I did see an ad for a marijuana store in San Diego– “Leave behind New England and start a new life in this booming California industry.”)
No one has a compassion center license to sell, so if the ad did appear, it was a scam. But it’s symbolic of the mood in Rhode Island’s medical marijuana community- half optimistic about the chance Governor Chafee will lift his hold on the marijuana retail stores *any day now* and half thinking it’s time to do something dramatic.
There’s a petition online with 215 signatures, urging Chafee to “License Medical Marijuana Compassion Centers in Rhode Island Immediately.” “I am fighting cancer,” Kenneth Laliberte from Warwick writes under his reason for signing.
“There are so many chronically ill licensed patients who do not have access to their medicine. They are unneedlessly suffering,” includes Mary Hanley from Warwick.
But the Rhode Island Patient Advocacy Coalition is hoping to do something more. Even possibly file a lawsuit. The group meets Monday to put together a plan.
