Birth control recall

September 20, 2011

This from the RI Department of Health–  women in the Ocean State might be getting the wrong hormone doses if they take the following  birth control pills-

  • Cyclafem 7/7/7
  • Cyclafem 1/35
  • Emoquette
  • Gildess FE 1.5/30
  • Gildess FE 1/20
  • Orsythia
  • Previfem
  • Tri-Previfem

Qualitest Pharmaceuticals is recalling these birth control pills following a packaging error.  If you take these pills, contact  your doctor and use another form of birth control.

Be sure to check the actual name of your birth control medication. These are all generic forms of name brand medicines.  So you may think you take Ortho Tri-Cyclen, but your pharmacy actually gives you Tri-Previfem.

Go here for more detailed information about the lot numbers and expiration dates of the recalled medicine.

No word yet from the Department of Health on how many Rhode Islanders might be affected.  The Department of Health says Qualitest can’t quantify how many Rhode Islanders might be affected by the recall. The company can only confirm that the recalled drugs were distributed in the Ocean State.
