Head of RI’s medical marijuana program has a new job
More evidence that it’s not a good time for medical marijuana advocates in Rhode Island- the head of the state’s medical marijuana program has left for another position.
That was his decision, it was purely his own personal decision, so I can’t speak for him.
Alexandre never intended to be the point person for the state’s medical marijuana program. His official title was Chief of Health Professionals Regulation. But when Rhode Island legalized the medical use of marijuana, health officials had to put the program somewhere and professionals regulation seemed like a good fit.
The duty must have grown into a passion, because in 2010 Alexandre completed a doctoral thesis about Rhode Island’s medical marijuana program. That’s not your typical devotion to a day job.
In my interactions with Charlie (as every body calls him) he was always a little reserved, but kind, and obviously competent.
Annemarie Beardsworth says she doesn’t know if his position has been filled.
