Rhode Island pet lovers and potential/current parents, perk up your ears!

Finnish researchers have published a new study in the journal Pediatrics (one of the leading scientific publications in the field and a product of the American Academy of Pediatrics) about the benefits of bringing up baby with pets. They followed newborns through their first year and found that those who had early contact with dogs and cats had fewer respiratory infectious illnesses. The thinking is that exposure to pets gives infants better resistance to infections, not only during their first year but throughout childhood. And it’s another addition to the growing list of evidence that animal companions can have meaningful effects on our health and well-being.
